we came 2nd against one of the best British animation studios!

In the words of American business magnate, Ross Perot, “Life is never more fun than when you’re the underdog competing against the giants.”

Is that really true?

Recently, us lizards at our lively lounge found ourselves pitching against one of the biggest titans in the UK animation industry best known for its man and dog (and sheep!) stop motion series, Aardman no less, and we ended up coming second. We were super disappointed, of course, but more than that, we were incredibly proud of ourselves. Why?

Because out of the many animation studios that pitched for the job, salamandra.uk was shortlisted from 8, to 5, then finally to 2, and it was only after quite some deliberation by the client that we eventually came second in this race — against a much larger studio with over 40 years of experience, an Academy Award, and a BAFTA Award under its belt!

They say you should always have an underdog mentality when you want to succeed at something, but when we look at the definition of being an underdog—described as a David vs. Goliath situation in which a smaller, less experienced, less talented competitor takes on the bigger, more experienced, more talented competitor—we’re not so sure it’s quite the mentality for us.

If our studios learned anything from coming second against a giant in the industry, it’s that we often underestimate ourselves, especially when it comes to our breadth, calibre, and reputability.

Instead of thinking of ourselves as the underdogs with less experience and talent, we should really be seeing ourselves as the fierce and talented competitors that we are, and be proud of how far we’ve come to go up against, and challenge, the big guns! Go Lizards!

So there you have it.

The lizards came second, and we’re not afraid to shout it out to the world. That way, when we come first, we’ll be that much closer to our goal of being the best B2B animation agency in the UK, and beyond, and you’ll all be invited to celebrate with us!
