destination sustainable animation

With our eyes on obtaining and maintaining a carbon-neutral approach to delivering animation services, our lively lounge cares about championing sustainability in everything we do!

Plus, with an estimated 1.1°C increase in global temperature between 1850 and 2017, we at salamandra.uk have set about creating a roadmap that illustrates our efforts towards becoming carbon-neutral.

what is our reptilian team doing to reach carbon-neutrality?

  • Since COVID-19 first stuck its head out at the start of 2020, our team of lizards have been very fortunate to be able to continue a productive working schedule from the comfort of our homes. Our studios have successfully adapted to a hybrid working arrangement, with only two days a week spent travelling into the office—thus cutting back a considerable 60% carbon emissions from when we were commuting to the office five days a week pre-pandemic.

  • These are the little (sometimes overlooked) adjustments to your daily routine—like the loo roll we use in the office. At salamandra,uk, we are proud supporters of Who Gives A Crap, a B-Corp Certified supplier of 100% recycled loo roll, forest friendly tissues and paper towels. Not only does Who Gives a Crap offer carbon-neutral shipping, but by using recyclable fibres and bamboo alternatives, they’re ultimately reducing deforestation.

  • As our studios currently don’t have fully-equipped kitchens, our lizards recycle any takeaway or food packaging we use or accumulate throughout the day. This in turn helps to tackle climate change due to the fact that less energy is required in the manufacturing of products using recyclable raw materials, fewer materials end up being incinerated, and further carbon emissions are consequently reduced.

  • As an animation studio, visuals are our most powerful tool, and we can use this to our advantage. Everything we show on-screen and in collateral can send a strong message—even if it’s as simple as showing/adding more greenery to our visuals, or collaborating with more carbon-neutral certified companies looking to carry their own message of sustainability across. By shifting our focus onto the representation of a greener world, we inspire others to do the same and help spread the word.

why did we create a roadmap to carbon-neutrality?

While a growing number of companies and financial institutions have committed to net zero emissions by 2050—in line with the Paris agreement adopted in 2015—few have mapped out in detail how they plan to reach it.

Now, the UK government is to require most big firms and financial institutions to begin publishing net-zero transition plans by 2023.

Speaking during Finance Day at COP26, UK Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced that UK financial institutions, followed by all listed companies, will be required to publish net-zero transition plans by 2023 detailing how they will decarbonise in order to meet 2050 net-zero targets.
