case study: the new big red, Milwaukee EU

Welcome to our case study on the new Big Red feature video we did for our lovely clients at Milwaukee EU. The Big Red, true to its name, is a truck that tours across Europe and stops at various events, where it transforms into a browsable showroom.

what is the new Big Red?

The new Big Red is honestly a fantastic brand awareness tool, especially now that Milwaukee ® has decided to add a massive screen that goes along the top, displaying the action-packed video edit created by our talented lizards in our lively lounge. The project was a wild, fantastic journey — but after seeing the new Big Red IRL, was totally worth it!

what was the brief?

Our lizardy team was asked to create an impactful, exciting and attention-grabbing video for the new Big Red ahead of its launch. The video had to be designed carefully and purposefully for the wide screen set to go on top of the truck, at a staggering 14.5m wide, and 2.5m high! Going into it, we knew one of our biggest challenges (or opportunities) would be to make the most effective use of the impactful size and shape of the screen.

Furthermore, the final video had to thread together clips from existing videos (some of which we’ve done for Milwaukee ® in the past), and both existing and new CAD animations. The video also had to have an overall flow and narrative to it that would keep viewers engaged and excited throughout.

what did we create?

From the get-go, our team of saurian creatives came armed with ideas!

We debated between going with a slick, dynamic or epic feel, and ultimately the latter came out on top. Because let’s face it, what is the new Big Red other than the very definition of epic?

We created an action-packed 3-minute video threaded together with fast-cut footage, impactful CAD animation, and show-stopping 3D motion graphics to create a continuous and exciting journey throughout the video whilst moving through 3D space and telling a narrative.

Particularly, we really enjoyed using 3D elements to create an illusion of depth when viewed from the right angle, like the scenes go far back into the screen…

what did the client say?

“Having worked with the team at salamandra.uk before, choosing them as the agency for this project was a no-brainer. I enjoyed getting to bounce ideas around with the team, and see them flex their creative muscles as they realised the brief. I’m proud to say the feedback has been amazing—-both from customers and the internal team. I’d say one of the biggest signs of success is people asking me for versions of this video to use in their own collateral.” Jake Cleverley, Trade Marketing Manager Milwaukee®
